Architect Adrian Lo shared with us his proposal for the New Links New Kwun Tong Design Ideas Competition (see all the results here) in Hong Kong. The competition invited local professionals and the general public to submit ideas and concepts with innovative designs for the two pedestrian link systems in Kwun Tong for reference and implementation.

Simple but conscious design to create a urban green spine, that gives the tense concrete forest a sense of relieve and echoes with the surrounding urban oasis.
This project “INFINITY GREEN” is an exploration to give a new definition and understanding to “footbridge”. Aiming to bring harmonious balance with the site surroundings, in mental, physical and visual facet, it lays the stepping stone for our future sustainable society. The “functional walkway pedestrian” is a now turned into a manifesto of the urbanlandscape, conveying fresh and healthy city image and also link up surrounding green pocket to generate a network of urban biotopes.
Key Design Feature - Acting as an urban filter the plants help to remove CO2 and pollutants - Vegetations as high efficient natural noise screen / damper - Vegetations as semi-permeable visual barrier for surrounding residence - High transparence maximize usage of sunlight during daytime, at the same time, avoid creating heavy mass within the dense city form. - Green wall & system is being employed (Irrigation system incorporated) - Modular design (structure/canopy/wall) making the project very constructurable and easy maintenance - A one-fits-all design solution that can easily improvised for other sites in future.
